50th Anniversary Celebration of the New York State Acupuncture Practice Act

On August 9, 2025, leaders from various local professional associations convened in Flushing, NY, to commemorate the 50th

anniversary of the significant legislation that amended the original Chapter 959 of the Laws of 1974 to Chapter 842 of the Laws of 1975, which allows acupuncturist to practice independently without medical supervision or control. Dr. David PJ Hung, now 94 years old, played a crucial role in initiating and supporting acupuncture legislation in New York State during the 1970s. Notably, New York was the first state in the United States to permit acupuncturists to practice independently.
